Our Environmental Health team help to protect public health and improve the quality of the environment. For example, we regularly monitor the level of air pollution across the borough and investigate environmental crimes such as pollution, fly tipping, dog fouling and littering. Our officers also ensure that the food sold to consumers throughout the borough is safe and we issue food hygiene ratings to food businesses. Officers within our Environmental Health team also help ensure a high standard of housing conditions within the borough and ensure that properties in the private rented sector are free from serious health hazards such as damp and mould.
Licensing
Our Licensing team work to maintain public safety across our borough by regulating a number of licensable activities. For example, we issue licences for the sale of alcohol, provision of late-night entertainment, gambling premises and the operation of taxi and private hire vehicles. Our officers work with partner agencies such as the police and the licensing trade to ensure that these activities are undertaken responsibly, safely and in accordance with licence conditions.
Community safety
Our Community Safety team works to improve community safety and reduce the burden of anti-social behaviour (ASB) within the borough. Our Community Safety officers do this by carrying out a range of interventions aimed at targeting the source of the ASB and by working closely with both offenders and victims. Officers within our Community Safety team are also heavily involved in community engagement initiatives and work with a wide range of partners in order to achieve sustainable solutions to community safety issues.
